Cantata for Domitila News/ Novedades de la Cantata

A CD based on one of the live performances of the Cantata for Domitila is in the works.

So watch this space!

Sometime at the end of 2007 we should have the finished product ready.

This is in response to the many requests for a recording of the Cantata, which has been presented three times in the local Sydney area. The Cantata is a folk opera with original Bolivian-style folk music composed in Australia. It is based on the dramatic story of Domitila Barrios de Chungara, a Bolivian woman who has devoted her life to the plight of the tin miners of her country.

The music uses various rhythms popular in Bolivia today, sometimes in fusion with touches such as jazz, funk or chamber music with violins and viola.

The CD will be of the music and a poem from the show. The show includes dialogue between two bilingual women that links the songs and illuminates Domitila's experiences as described in her book, ¡Si Me Permiten Hablar! A copy of the entire script will be included in the CD package as a separate item.

*** Profits from sales of the CD will be for charitable projects in Bolivia and Australia.
